Welcome to the world of PD2JKC.
My name is Johan Jörning, a licensed amateur radio operator with two QTH's in The Netherlands: Rotterdam and Maarheeze.
To me, amateur radio is much more than a callsign, a transceiver and an antenna. It is a world where technology, experimentation a nd communication come together — without borders.
From a local signal to a station thousands of kilometres away, you never know whose callsign will be the next to emerge from the noise.
And that is exactly what makes radio so fascinating.
The World Within Reach
Operating under the callsign PD2JKC, I am active on the amateur radio bands and constantly exploring new possibilities within this fascinating hobby.
My station includes a Yaesu FTdx101D combined with an Eco-85 antenna. But for me, radio is about much more than transmitting.
Receiving, analysing and experimenting are equally important. Using equipment including the Uniden SDS200E, I explore the radio spectrum and experiment with analogue and digital communications, scanners, DMR, software and different radio systems.
Sometimes it is a strong local signal.
Sometimes just a few words emerging from the noise.
And sometimes propagation changes, the band suddenly opens up, and the other side of the world comes within reach.
Experiment. Listen. Connect.
Those three words describe an important part of what amateur radio means to me.
Experimenting with equipment and antennas. Listening to what is happening across the bands. And ultimately making that special contact with another operator who may be hundreds — or thousands — of kilometres away.
No internet connection carrying the conversation between two stations.
Just radio waves, antennas, propagation and technology bridging the distance.
That continues to fascinate me.
Two QTHs – One Callsign
PD2JKC operates from two locations in The Netherlands: Rotterdam and Maarheeze.
Two different QTHs, each with its own environment, possibilities and character. This makes it especially interesting to explore the bands and experience how location, antenna setup and propagation influence reception and radio contacts.
From both QTHs, I continue to experiment, listen, make contacts and develop my stations.
New equipment is tested, settings are refined and new technologies and operating methods are explored.
Because in amateur radio, there is always something new to discover.
Another frequency.
Another mode.
A better antenna.
A new experiment.
And somewhere in the world, perhaps the next station waiting to hear PD2JKC.
